The Center is engaged in the consulting, design and research on environmental science and technology. It is composed by the staff from the former divisions of the Institute, including the former Environmental Impact Assessment and Science and Technology Consulting Center, the former Energy Center and Engineering Center. The Center mainly carries out researches on environmental impact assessment technical guidelines and norms, countermeasures to critical environmental issues, countermeasures to national and local difficult environmental management issues, as well as environmental management, planning and supervision technology consultation and services.

Research Tasks and Achievements
Since its foundation, the Center has carried out research and design projects focusing on pollution prevention and control engineering technology of the nation’s key environmental control industries, especially dyestuff, chemical, printing and dyeing, wool spinning, wool washing, electroplating, pharmaceutical, pesticide, food processing, brewing, and hospitals.
The programs that the Center involved include Pollution Prevention and Control Program for Three Rivers and Three Lakes, Acid Rain and SO2 Emission Control Areas Program, as well as heavy metal and groundwater pollution prevention and control.
The Center also provides various research and design services on environmental risk assessment and early warning technology; emergency reaction technology and the related equipments; optimized procedures, technologies, methods for environmental risk prevention and control of industrial parks and typical demonstration; research and consulting on handling, damage assessment, compensation, and remediation technology for environmental accidents; etc.
The research and design of energy conservation and emission reduction technology that the Center has long been conducting have been focused on the development of various flow and quality regulation of the jet heat pump and ejectors of heat pump energy-saving systems, optimization of technological processes, so as to achieve the multiple comprehensive benefits of energy saving, production increasing, raw material reduction and environmental protection.
